What is junior golf?

Junior golf term clinics are 8-week programs that run throughout the school term for children between 7-12 years of age. During this time we look to develop your children not only as golfers who are able to play the game, but as athletes.

Sessions will be limited to a maximum of 8 students to ensure each student is able to get the most out of every session.

Each week there will be a number of different stations for the children to work through. These stations involve working on functional movement skills, golf skills and some basic golf techniques. These stations are all based around training that Will has done with the Titleist Performance Institute, aiming to develop the best young athletes possible for not just golf but all sports.

Program Structure

1. What do we do at a junior golf clinic?

The focus of these group sessions is to create young athletes who have the ability to transition the skills learnt into not only golf but a number of other sports.

Children will move through a number of different stations throughout the sessions, each with a specific skill or movement that is trying to be learnt or achieved. These activities and drills are based upon the Titleist Performance Institute Junior golf program.

Activities will not always include hitting a golf ball or making a golf swing. They may include: throwing, jumping, hoping, skipping, kicking, catching and running amongst others.

It is important for parents to understand that without these basic functional movement skills being taught it is going to be hard for children to develop their golfing skills. These skills are all transitioned into the golf swing.

2. What are the benefits of junior golf?

Junior golf clinics are the ideal way for juniors to both learn and further develop their golfing skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Although golf is an individual sport, it is much more beneficial for young children when starting out to practice and learn in a team environment. This allows them to have more fun, develop friendships and play games and activities to help develop their functional movement and therefore their golfing skills.

If they don’t develop functional movement skills, then they can’t throw, can’t catch, can’t run and can’t swim. We want your children to grow not just as golfers but as athletes who are able to transfer these skills into a number of different sports.

3. Do I need to own clubs?

If children have their own clubs they are more than welcome to bring their own gear along. However, if not we have plenty of clubs of all different sizes that they are able to use.

One of the most important things for children when they are starting out is that they are using clubs that are the correct size. Clubs that are too long will encourage poor habits, and make it harder and therefore less enjoyable for the children. For this reason we may encourage students to use our clubs when with us to ensure that they are going to get the most out of every session.
